Body Contouring With Radiofrequency Lipolysis: FAQS

The smooth, shapely contours of the body can change with time and fluctuations with weight, and sometimes, these areas of excess tissue can hang around no matter how fit you may be. Body contouring is one option available for people who want to refine the shape of their curves and have a more lean appearance, but body contouring is not always a surgical thing. There are non-surgical forms of body contouring like radiofrequency lipolysis that can be a better option for some people. Here are a few things you likely want to know about radiofrequency lipolysis.

What exactly is radiofrequency lipolysis?

Radiofrequency lipolysis is a form of body contouring that relies on radiofrequency and heat to manipulate and target fat cells under the skin. During treatment sessions, a practitioner will use what looks like an ultrasound machine to generate heat under the skin where the fat and collagen cells are collected. The heat gradually changes the composition of these cells so when treatment is done, there is a more refined, smooth shape in that area of the body. This form of body contouring is one of the most common available because the procedure does not necessarily have to be performed in a medical setting.

What areas respond best to radiofrequency lipolysis?

People choose to have this type of body contouring in all kinds of places on the body. However, because the reach of the radiofrequency waves is not all that great compared to some other treatment types, the treatment works best for areas where fat and collagen cells are not all that deep. For example, the inner thighs, arms, and lower abdomen can usually be targeted with radiofrequency lipolysis, but pockets of collagen in some areas can be harder to reach and may not respond the same. While most providers will do treatments on most areas of the body, it should always come with the expectation that there will be differences in results.

Where can you find radiofrequency lipolysis offered?

Radiofrequency lipolysis is often offered at high-end spas of cosmetic body contouring centers that specifically specialize in this form of treatment. Some cosmetic surgeons offer this form of body contouring paired with other types of treatment to achieve a more dramatic result overall. For example, radiofrequency lipolysis may be paired with liposuction to help smooth areas and pockets of collagen and fatty tissue after the actual surgical procedure is performed.
