Indulging in a Spa Day

Extend The Life Of Your Hair Extensions

Long, thick hair is something that many women want. Unfortunately, genetics might not allow your natural hair to grow as long and thick as you would like. Investing in hair extensions can be a simple way to achieve the hairstyle you want without waiting for your hair to grow or using thickening agents on a daily basis.

Quality hair extensions can be quite costly, so you want to ensure that you are doing everything you can to protect your investment and give your extensions the longest life possible.

Moisturize Your Extensions

The number one thing you can do to extend the life of your hair extensions is keep them moisturized. Your own hair has natural oils that are produced by the scalp to keep it moisturized. Extensions do not have a natural hydration source. This can leave extensions brittle and prone to breakage if moisture is not added.

Invest in a lightweight hydrating oil that you can spritz on your extensions each day. Utilize a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner when you wash your extensions to prevent drying of the hair cuticle. If you make it a priority to moisturize your extensions every day, you can significantly extend their lifespan.

Store Your Extensions Properly

If you have clip-in extensions, you probably won't be wearing them all the time. In fact, you should never sleep, swim, or exercise with your extensions in place. These activities can cause the extensions to get tangled with your natural hair.

Storing your extensions properly will be key to extending the life of these beauty products. Gently brush your extensions with a paddle brush to remove any knots. Use a soft hair tie to secure the extensions in a ponytail near the base of the wefts. Carefully wrap the hair in a circle, then place the extensions in a box or specialized bag for safe storage.

Prevent Shedding

Just as your natural hair strands can shed each day, it is normal for your extensions to shed a few hairs each time you brush or wear them. Your extensions can deteriorate quickly when significant shedding takes place.

You need to try and keep shedding to a minimum by avoiding the use of hair products on your extensions. Hairspray, hair gels, and other products can damage the weft holding the individual strands of the extensions together. Use styling products before you add your extensions to help prevent shedding and keep your extensions as full and shiny as possible.
