Protect Your Eyes And Lashes: Cleaning Your Face While Wearing Lash Extensions

Proper eye hygiene when wearing lash extensions keeps you looking good, but more importantly, it protects your eye health. While wearing these extensions does allow for some level of carefreeness, there are still measures you should take to protect your eyes. Learn how to keep your eye area clean, and why it's so important.

Say No to Eye Makeup

It's best to avoid all forms of eye makeup if you can. While some regular powder-style eye shadows are okay, you do not want to wear cream-based shadows. Cream-based shadows can attach to the lash and are very hard to remove. You should also avoid wearing mascara when you wear lash extensions, as its equally challenging to remove.

When you're unable to properly clean around your eye, the buildup of makeup will trap dirt, oil, and even dead skin cells around your lash line. The result of this buildup can be an eye infection known as Blepharitis. Avoiding these products makes cleaning much easier.

Use Specialized Cleansers

Be mindful of the type of cleaners that you use to wash around your eyes and the rest of your face. In terms of specific cleaners for your eyes, always use a specialized lash extension cleanser. These products are typically foam cleansers that are safe for use around the eye and are adhesive friendly.

For the rest of your face, avoid any product that contains oil, such as makeup removal oil cleansers. All forms of oil are like kryptonite for lash adhesive and will cause your extensions to loosen. Keep the same oil-free concept in mind when it comes to your moisturizing products as well.

Know When to Clean

If you're like most people, you wash your face when you wake up in the morning and before bed. In order to not disturb your lash extensions too much but still keep your eyes healthy, you should know that it's best to clean your lashes at night.

Over the course of a day, you come in contact will all sorts of contaminants that can latch onto your lashes, including dust and dirt. Cleansing at night is a way to remove the day's buildup. However, if you swim or workout during the day, you should clean your eyes after these activities.
